Today we say a fond farewell to one of the 38th Voyage whaleboats.

The boat pictured here came to us from Lake Champlain Maritime Museum in Vergennes, Vermont. It was built by students in its Boat Shop. Today, it will return to the museum.

As part of the CHARLES W. MORGAN's 38th Voyage, organizations from around the country built a fleet of new whaleboats to equip the ship. In all, 10 groups from seven states took part in this national whaleboat project.

The MORGAN typically carried seven 28-foot double-ended open whaleboats during her whaling career.
